12.28.12 … gentrification …

Reflections offer portrait of student activism.

I remember the first time I heard the term “gentrification.” It was with regard to the renewal of the entry level housing near the Citadel. It was 22 years ago and I thought the term sounded horribly “politically incorrect.” I must have been wrong because it is still used!

12.20.12 … four weeks of Advent: hope, peace, joy and love …

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2012 Advent Labyrinth Waks, Winter Solstice

Tonight is the winter solstice, and what I thought was going to be an outdoor walk at Myers Park Baptist Church ended up being an indoor walk on a canvas Santa Rosa labyrinth.

The labyrinth was encircled by candles, and there were four stations around the outer circuit with a card on the symbolism of the four weeks of Advent: hope, peace, joy and love.

The walk was extremely peaceful and i enjoyed walking in community.

Joy!

12.4.12 … generally I fall in the “pluralism” camp …

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, Almetto Howie Alexander Labyrinth – McCrorey YMCA – Charlotte NC:

Today’s Advent Devotional:

It is important to nurture constantly the life of the Spirit of Jesus – which is the eternal life – that is already in us.

I have just left First Presbyterian Church where I was at Tuesday Morning Bible study where we were discussing – Is Christ the only way? Of course we don’t have an answer but we do have several theories, four to be exact. I must admit that generally I fall in the “pluralism” camp.

After TMBS, I decided to walk the labyrinth at the McCrorey YMCA, another of my favorites. This one is also painted by Tom Schulz who painted Myers Park Baptist. It, however, has a Afro centric theme, but that theme is overlayed on a traditional 11 circuit Chartres labyrinth.

The sign reads: “Step-by-step: building a path for healing, meditation, and peace.” – Almetto.org

Painted as you enter the labyrinth are the words,” with patience persistence and prayer, a God-filled spirit can bring a seed to fruit – Almetto Howie Alexander 2011

Another very hot December day … 75 degrees. But there is a cool wind … Still waiting for winter.

Blessings on this third day of Advent!
