4.12.13 ..”a critical-thinking, liberal-arts perspective is essential for humans’ very survival, especially in light of the technologically-oriented world we live in.”

Thomas Marshburn, ISS, Davidson College, Apple, Mission Control, liberal arts education, Great day to be a Wildcat!:  So we (John and Trob) went to Davidson to watch the live chat  with classmate Thomas Henry Marshburn and current the students.  We actually just got to watch and listen to Tom while the college techies worked with  a Mission Control.  Even though not as planned it was an enjoyable way to spend a Friday afternoon.

So the feed was not working … We all laughed when he picked up an Apple iPad! We could see him and hear him but he could not see or hear us.

This is the feed … fun to watch and listen .. Great day to be a Wildcat!

NASA on Livestream.

Tom did some cool somersaults and weightless parlor tricks with water drinking bags and his microphone and a bag of hazelnuts, gave us averbal tour of the ISS. He answered a few of the questions we’d sent up by e-mail data packet, from the personal (no, he doesn’t feel lonely with his crewmates right there and a regular rotation of familiar mission-control vo   ices around the globe numerous times per space “day”) to the philosophical (a critical-thinking, liberal-arts perspective is essential for humans’ very survival, especially in light of the technologically-oriented world we live in).
