11.21.16 … God ahead, God behind God be on the path I wind. God above, God below God be everywhere I go.

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2016 Labyrinth Walks, Avondale Presbyterian Church – Charlotte NC:

It is finally cool enough to feel like fall.

The chimes are ringing in the cool/almost cold breeze.

It’s 10:30 Am and the labyrinth is in the shade.

I decided I needed a tool so I reached into the information box and pulled out one of their sheets. I pondered this as I walked

God ahead, God behind

God be on the path I wind.

God above, God below

God be everywhere I go.

And I found a stone on the labyrinth. I will take it with me and leave it in my pocket until I walk another one. I will leave it there.

I chuckle every time I see the new benches. Several years ago at Easter the old benches collapsed. The new ones are a bit more sturdy.

Colors are beautiful …

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

8.30.16 … I’m off the path that I know …

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2016 Labyrinth Walks, The Cathedral of Saint Philip, Atlanta GA:

Chalk on the labyrinth … A multipurpose labyrinth 🙂

Magnolias still in bloom

Children at preschool

Cacaphony of cicadas

Young mothers in fashionable maxiskirts and miniskirts picking up their preschool daughters in perfect dresses and bows in their hair (where are the boys?) — diversity at the cathedral

I’m off the path that I know …

8.25.16 … “A thread of my cocoon must have snagged on the silence at its centre and begun, very gently, to unspool … “

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2016 Labyrinth Walks, Myers Park Baptist Church – Charlotte NC:

8.25 was a two labyrinth day …

As I walk here, I notice that everything is beautifully landscaped because the landscape crew just left. Nothing is out of place.

I look at the orientation of the labyrinth and realize that I’m going to look at a overhead shot of Chartres to see if the center lines up as this one does. It strikes me as very curious. So something is out of place.

And then I found this in my email …

Walking Grace

That first day,

before I knew

its path would become

my way home,

some part of me

fell into the labyrinth.

A thread of my cocoon

must have snagged

on the silence at its centre

and begun, very gently,

to unspool.

Step by step,

with every labyrinth that I walked

it continued to unravel,

years of carefully spun layers,

leaving traces of presence in its wake.

Today, I felt the tug

of the final fibres being claimed,

my life now woven deep

into that meandering path.

A new story emerging from the old

with a shape and a voice

and wings.

8.25.16 … “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2016 Labyrinth Walks, Avondale Presbyterian Church – Charlotte NC:

it is hot, hot, hot. The flowers and the grass are wilted today, and the weeds have taken over the labyrinth.

Before I walk, I noticed some smooth stones on the labyrinth. I know that my task at the center will be to build a cairn. I laugh when I get there because I cannot get one of the stones to stay. Six out of seven: I do not know what that means.

From the information sheet in the box, I like the final quote from Micah 6:8, “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

8.8.16 … lots of food for thought …

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2016 Labyrinth Walks, Thanksgiving Place/Stadium Place – Baltimore MD:

I drove to this labyrinth from Molly’s new home in the Canton neighborhood. I drove through some of the most blighted urban areas I have ever viewed and I arrived with a very heavy heart.

This labyrinth is situated on the location of the old Colts stadium. There is also a large YMCA and a retirement community.

As I approached the labyrinth, there was a man talking in a raised voice. The man appeared to be yelling. He was an attractive African-American man in workout clothes. From his conversation he appeared to be involved in ministry

“Fuck, church, bitch bastard, hymnals, shit, call the lawyer, attorney, good morning Frankie, shit, $43000, shady, sneaky, doing stupid shit.”

I thought to myself, if anybody saw me they would say you do not belong here, get out and get to a safe spot. I hated that I felt that way.

Open Spaces/Sacred Places is the organization that sponsored this labyrinth park. It is involved in the installation of parks in the mid Atlantic region.

The labyrinth is part of “Thanksgiving Place.”

Lots of food for thought.

6.6.16 … “The symbols that surround the labyrinth are called Adinkra, and they are commonly used on mud cloth fabric. They tell a story. The Adinkra symbols on this labyrinth express the traditional wisdom of Africa, in this case God, Community and Love.

“Solvitur Ambulando” – It is solved by walking, 2016 Labyrinth Walks, Almetto Howie Alexander Labyrinth – McCrorey YMCA/Charlotte NC:

I am partial to this labyrinth. John and I were over visiting for a minute before he takes off for his grade adventure. So I popped on the labyrinth and took a quick walk.…

I learned something new today at this labyrinth from the information board: “The symbols that surround the labyrinth are called Adinkra, and they are commonly used on mud cloth fabric. They tell a story. The Adinkra symbols on this labyrinth express the traditional wisdom of Africa, in this case God, Community and Love. They also tell a variety of story that other aspects of African life.”

First Baptist Church- Asheville NC: the anticipation will kill me!

Under Penalty of Law: Feeling bold …

In the 60s I do not think these tags had any exceptions.

And I was scared to remove them. 🙂

Blue: No one could see the color blue until modern times.
